The day I started in Atlanta, Georgia, where I was unexpectedly caught up in the CrowdStrike airline fiasco. The experience was grueling, with a four-hour flight delay. Although my status helped ease some discomfort, the ordeal continued with an hour-long wait on the plane before finally taking off. Hours later, I landed in Detroit, Michigan, followed by an hour-long drive through winding country roads to reach my destination. What should have been a three-hour routine trip turned into a nine-hour marathon.

Upon arrival, I was exhausted and hungry. By the time I arrived in Adrian, MI, everything was closed. After a good night’s rest, I headed to sound check the next day. Sound check is always a highlight, as we are typically the first to perform, allowing us more time to rest before the show. Reconnecting with colleagues from C&C Music Factory, Digital Underground, Color Me Badd, and Tone Loc is always a delight. With the sound check complete, it was time to rest and prepare for the show.

As we approached the Lenawee County Fairgrounds via the back roads, we were greeted by enthusiastic fans ready for a great show. Engaging in our pre-concert rituals, we took selfies, reviewed the particulars, and got into the right mindset.

Before the show, the event coordinator introduced the young ladies who were the queens of the Lenawee County Fair. The crowd’s response was lukewarm, so I decided to step in. I went on stage, brought the young ladies back, and made sure the audience gave them the recognition they deserved. I had a bit of fun with them, making them announce their names like they were the MC prize, with the crowd providing the enthusiastic introduction they deserved. The coordinator appreciated this gesture, and I told her that’s what Tag Team is all about—bringing energy.
The Crowd Comes Alive with “Whoomp! (There It Is)”
We started the show and got the party going. Typically, Tag Team crowds are energetic and ready to have a good time. However, occasionally, we encounter a situation where we need to work harder to build the energy. The 3,000 attendees gradually became more enthusiastic and responsive as we continued performing. By the time we performed “Whoomp! (There It Is),” the energy was palpable. Someone in the audience then shouted for us to sing the Geico commercial version. We obliged, and the crowd’s energy was ferocious. With a bow and my signature yell of “Sprinkles,” our set concluded. Tag Team had left the building.
